Not an engine expert? We have you covered with a Giant-Scale gas engine for those who don’t want the requirement of engine expertise. The Evolution® Engines 62GXi is a potent 62cc engine with the efficiency and convenience of an electronic fuel injection system. Simple to setup and maintain, it’s a Horizon Hobby innovation that means you never have to touch a needle-valve to enjoy starting ease, reliability and long engine life. That’s because SureFire™ Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) technology combines finely-tuned software and sophisticated sensors so the engine gets the perfect flow of fuel no matter where or what you fly.

The Evolution Engines 62GXi is the only purposely built RC engine on the market to feature an advanced electronic fuel injection system specially made for the needs of the giant-scale model pilot. There are no needle-valves to ever worry about because the SureFire EFI™ system provides smooth, reliable operation and optimum engine transition automatically, regardless of throttle position or atmospheric conditions. Just fuel, flip and fly.

Like all Evolution engines, the 62GXi is built to exact standards with high-quality materials, plus it comes ready to run with a compact 2-cell Li-Po compatible ignition and high-quality muffler. It’s the most advanced giant-scale gas power system you won’t have to touch except to fill the gas tank.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does EFI stand for?

Electronic Fuel Injection

What kinds of batteries are required?

Both the Air and the Car system utilize a single 2S LiPo battery system for all the power needs of the EFI and ignition system where appropriate. The EFI system itself draws about 200mAh of current. When combined with the electronic ignition system in the Airplane configuration the total current draw can be +- 600mah at wide open throttle. Our experience has been that a typical flight profile will average a 350mah current draw for the entire system.

How exactly does the fuel-injection-system work?

The system uses a combination of 4 sensors: 1)RPM and crank position, 2) Throttle position, 3) case temperature, 4) Intake air temperature. Through an onboard algorithm the ECU determines the correct amount of fuel to inject into the throttle body on each revolution.

Where in the engine is the fuel injected?

This is a throttle body fuel injection system so it goes right into the venturi of the throttle body.

How does the system know the right fuel amount?

Using the sensors noted above the system determines the correct amount of fuel based on extensive programming and testing that we have done. The system will hunt to find the highest rpm whenever the throttle is above 95% open and then apply any changes across the entire programming. Each time the throttle is advanced above 95% this hunting occurs so the system is constantly optimizing itself for the current weather and load conditions.

Which are the advantages of the system?

#1 - Ease of use. The user never has to worry about adjusting (or mis-adjusting) needle valves again.

#2 - Ease of starting – Car: Combined with our on-board ROSS system the starting and operation of the engine is now a hands off experience.

#2 – Ease of Starting – Air: After using the included primer bulb on the first start of the day, typical engine starts occur in 2 – 5 flips of the propeller. No more need to close/open a choke plate – any extra fuel needs for starting is all handled by the EFI System itself.

What should the user take care of while using the system?

Make sure the fuel supply is kept very clean. We have included a 1.2 micron filter in the tank to keep the fuel injector fuel supply clean and trouble free.

Keep the batteries charged.

Keep the air filters clean. (Car version)

What about the maintenance?

There are no unusual maintenance needs with our EFI system if the fuel supply is kept clean.
